“Connecting with the Couple” – Harmony and Shaun, April 2013

In November of 2012, I was contacted by (a very pregnant!) Bride-to-be Harmony and her fiancé Shaun to help with day of coordination for their April 2013 wedding.  I immediately connected with the couple, especially since I could relate to planning weddings with the added stress of a baby involved – I already had one at home myself!  Even though we still had 6 months until their wedding day, and they were only booking Diamonds and Details for day of coordination services, the couple was happy to take advantage of the fact that we offer the unique service of allowing clients to be in constant contact with the Day of Coordinator (DOC) even if the wedding is weeks, months or even years away!  Because we offer this extra perk in our “Day of Details” package, Harmony and Shaun were able to email me with design ideas or general logistic questions through the end of the planning process without hesitation.  It also benefited me as their Day of Coordinator because I was clued in to all their very specific needs and wants for wedding day.

Part of Harmony’s needs for wedding day was managing her very large bridal party, which included 10 bridesmaids, 8 groomsmen, a ring bearer, a flower girl and even their 3 month old son, who made his own special entrance down the aisle!  With such a large wedding party you always have a few hiccups to manage – our big one for the day was a groomsmen splitting his pants right before the ceremony!   Thankfully, I always have a great team working with me and my intern Maygan was able to fix the pants in only a matter of minutes.  For the ceremony, Harmony and Shaun choose Tyler Arboretum, which couldn’t have offered a better backdrop to such a perfect spring wedding.

The Bride really added her personal touches throughout the ceremony, including putting together the flowers for the aisle decor herself, handwriting the seating sign and passing out bubbles for the guests to blow as the newlyweds exited the ceremony.

Just Married!

One of the highlights of the wedding for me was working with Harmony and Shaun’s photographer, Brett Martelli from Martelli Photography.  As a Wedding Planner, I never complain about the problem of trying to pick the best photos from a wedding to feature on my website and blog.  Brett really captured the beauty of Harmony and Shaun’s wedding day, while also finding a way to feature the couple’s fun sense of humor in some of the wedding day photos.

The very beautiful, but very large wedding party!

For the reception at Kings Mills in Media, the Bride and Groom’s personal touches continued to be apparent.  For the centerpieces, the couple used books based on love stories and the Groom even made some of the wood accents that were used on the tables.

Capturing this couple’s fun sense of humor!

I love when I am able to develop a personal connection with a Bride and Groom, which I feel was really the case with Harmony and Shaun.  Even with a few hiccups that needed to be attended to during the day, my team and I had a great experience working with the couple throughout the planning process and especially on wedding day.  The Bride and Groom even went as far as to have a table for the wedding professionals to eat their dinner at in the same room as the guests so we would feel welcome and appreciated.   It was above and beyond what’s expected and just showed how sweet this couple truly was.

Harmony and Shaun have many exciting things to look forward to in the future – a new marriage, a new son and new a life together as a family!  Diamonds and Details wishes them all the best!
